Scam QR codes have been stuck to pay and display machines outside a theatre.
Fareham Borough Council has issued a warning about the practice, saying that a number of pay and display machines have been targeted across the borough.
The council shared example pictures showing the codes on the council's own Fareham Live car park, which is just outside the theatre.
When scanned, these stickers would take the victim to a website controlled by the scammer and trick them into handing over personal data, such as bank details.
These stickers have been removed.
A spokesperson for Fareham Borough Council said: "Please be aware that we've been informed of further scam QR codes being posted on pay and display machines around the borough.
"If you are unsure of the QR code or its validity, please use the PayByPhone app instead."
The authority adds that it is aware of letters being received by residents that purport to be from council officers.
If you're unsure of the authenticity of a letter you have received from the council, then you can contact the council on 01329 236100.
