A new fine dining Indian restaurant is welcoming customers at one of Southampton’s most iconic buildings.
Royal Palace is the latest restaurant to open at the Royal Pier - the former home of Kuti’s Brasserie.
The new curry house boasts an extensive and flavour-filled menu with plans for a roof top bar to be opened during the summer with views over Southampton water.
The Royal Palace (Image: NQ) Royal Palace had its official opening event on Tuesday, May 27, which was attended by residents and special guests including Southampton’s Lord Mayor, Cllr James Baillie.
Showquat Ahmed, 52, The owner of Royal Palace said: “We have been open for around four weeks now and today we are thrilled to welcome some Southampton guests to try some of our food today.
“The reason I bought this place was due to it being one of the most well known and special buildings in the city – with such historical significance.
“I have been in the restaurant business for 30 years and I plan to bring my experience to give the people of the city some truly wonderful food.”

The opening comes after the replacement to Kuti’s Brasserie, Déjà vu, which opened in December 2024, closed its doors at the Royal Pier.
Kuti Miah, who ran the original restaurant owes thousands to businesses in the area.
Southampton residents may already be familiar with Mr Ahmed as he is also the owner of Rimjhim in Winchester and partnered with other local curry houses such as Bayleaf Kitchen in High Street.
Inside the Royal Palace (Image: NQ) Mr Ahmed continued: “I have worked in the kitchen and on the management side so I’m really excited for what the future holds.
“All are ingredients are fresh and purchased from a local markets the same day – ensuring everyone tastes the best possible food.
“One dish I would recommend that everybody tries is our delicious lamb shank with meat that falls straight off the bone.”
The 52-year-old also has plans to open a new curry restaurant in Eastleigh as his next venture.
Curry has been served at the Royal Pier house since 2008 after the opening of Kuti’s Brasserie.
