Kinky Boots opened to a thunderous standing ovation for its opening night at Mayflower Theatre yesterday evening.

Led by Johannes Radebe (Strictly Come Dancing) as Lola, and Dan Partridge as Charlie Price, Kinky Boots is a non-stop musical wave full of colour and toe-tapping tunes.

Having entertained audiences on both the West End and Broadway, Kinky Boots is a real treat of a musical that's not to be missed in Southampton, before the final curtain on Saturday, May 31.

After unexpectedly inheriting his father's shoe factory, Charlie is forced to leave behind his life in London and return to Northampton where he must take charge of a failing business.

With the company's finances dwindling, he enlists the help of drag queen Lola, swapping the production of boring shoes for 'kinky boots,' before showcasing the glittery fashion wear at the Milan fashion show.

Kinky Boots features incredible performances throughout the ensemble cast, which includes Courtney Bowman, Joe Caffrey, and Scott Page.

Dan Partridge perfectly blends the musicality and the drama of the lead role, but undoubtedly the star of the show is Strictly Come Dancing's very own Johannes Radebe.

The professional dancer proves he's much more than just a ballroom and Latin expert, leaving the audience in stitches with his comedic timing and blown away by his knockout vocals. His unforgettable performance is worth the entry fee alone.

However, Johannes Radebe will not be performing in the role of Lola on Wednesday, June 28, matinee and Thursday, June 29, matinee where the role of Lola will be played by Newtion Matthews.

The immersive staging enhances the production, with sets seamlessly changing from a factory in Northampton to a catwalk in Milan.

Kinky Boots at Mayflower Theatre is guaranteed to leave you on cloud nine and make you want to see it all over again.

If the audience’s reaction on opening night is anything to go by, you’ll be out of your seat during the final song, before leaving the auditorium with unforgettable memories.
