A Southampton tram has been restored to its former glory.

Solent Sky Museum has announced the successful restoration of Southampton Tram 11, making it the first tram in the city to be on its own wheels since 1949.

The double-decker tram, built in 1923, is one of the last remaining from Southampton's tram network, which operated from 1879 until 1949.

The tram body has now been reunited with its underframe and wheels, allowing the public to see it in its original state for the first time in more than 75 years.

"Placing Tram 11 back on its chassis is a powerful symbol of our commitment to preserving and celebrating Southampton’s engineering and transport legacy."

The restoration was made possible by the efforts of volunteers, skilled craftspeople, and professional support from Alan Keef Ltd.

To celebrate the completion of Tram 11, Solent Sky will host a special open day on June 21 and 22.

The event will feature dozens of model tramways on display, and the tram workshop will be open, showcasing Tram 11 and other historic trams in the museum's collection.
