A popular Southampton café is set to reopen after closing its doors last year.

Mettricks in Woolston has announced it will reopen next month and is on the lookout for new staff ahead of its relaunch.

The company has teased a “late June 2025” opening date with many customers set to be pleased with the café’s return.

It comes after Mettricks closed in December 2024, due to “hugely disruptive” scaffolding that covered buildings in Centenary Quay, impacting on trade.

Announcing the café’s return on social media, the café’s owner and founder, Spencer Bowman, said: “It’s with real joy, a little apprehension and plenty of emotion that we can finally share the news: Mettricks Woolston will reopen its doors in late June 2025.

“After months of difficult negotiations with our landlords and a number of heartfelt conversations with neighbours and customers I have bumped in to around the city we have finally (this afternoon, Friday, May 23, 2025) signed an agreement with our landlord – we’re coming back to Woolston Waterside, with a real determination to bring our community focussed cafe and bar back to its vibrant best.

“The scaffolding may still be up; the compound is still blocking access —but Mettricks Woolston is ready to warm up and we’re now looking to get ready to give it another big go.

“It’s so clear from the messages of support we have received that Woolston wants a thriving Mettricks and we believe that with your support and help, we can bring the heart back to Centenary Quay.”

Following the news of its reopening, Mettricks has called for “people who love great coffee, local food, warm hospitality and want to be a core part of the Woolston community and aren’t afraid of a challenge,” to get in touch and be part of the new team.

In a message to customers, Spencer said the closure of Mettricks in December had been “heartbreaking,” and that cladding had “overshadowed Centenary Quay for too long.”

He added: “While we’re thrilled to have another chance, we need to be honest, we still face another nine months of heavy disruption as a community and business, and we need all the support we can get to try to get to the other side.

“We’re asking for your support, your patience, your enthusiasm, and your presence—because every flat white, every Friday night pizza, every shared moment at Mettricks makes will be what makes it possible for us to survive this next phase.”
