One of the biggest cruise ships in the UK has been given a top hygiene rating by the CDC.
Independence of the Seas is due to be based in Southampton for the summer 2025 season with it having less than 200 passengers less than P&O's Arvia - considered the biggest ship in the UK.
Within their hygiene report the CDC highlighted a number of areas for improvement.
These included black debris inside the ice machine's ice thickness sensor, and a counter recessed ice bin that was heavily soiled on the inside food contact surface.

Other issues included water leaking from the deckhead near the ovens and water pooling on the deck below.
CDC inspectors advised regular cleaning of decks, bulkheads, deckheads, and attached equipment in food preparation, warewashing, pantries, and storage areas.
The report also highlighted a safety issue with a slide run-out, which maintained water deeper than recommended.
