Plans to replace a detached house with three terraced homes have been approved.

The redevelopment at The Retreat on Whinfield Road, Dibden Purlieu, will include three medium-sized homes with loft bedrooms.

The site, currently occupied by a detached house in poor repair, will also feature six parking spaces, with cycle and bin storage facilities provided.

New Forest District Council approved the application, stating the development is appropriate for the area, which features a variety of property styles.

The council said the development would not negatively impact neighbouring properties and will enhance the overall appearance of Whinfield Road.

The new homes, set on a similar building line to neighbouring properties, will be close to local shops and facilities, making the parking provision acceptable.

However, a few residents have expressed concerns.

Jacqueline Smith said extra homes would exacerbate parking issues, while Ramona Sticklen said the development is "out of character" with the rest of Whinfield Road and too large for the plot.

Robert Davey shared similar sentiments, stating the terraced housing would "look out of place" among bungalows and semi-detached homes.

Despite the objections, the council granted permission, citing a satisfactory internal living environment, appropriate design, and ecological mitigation measures.
