A driver who hurtled along the M27 at more than 100mph has been told to pay £1,825 in fines and costs.

Stephen Briney was travelling west on the motorway when he was clocked at 102mph between junctions 10 and 9 on November 28 2023.

Briney, 42, of Sheep Pond Lane in Droxford, was sentenced at Southampton Magistrates' Court.

He was fined £1,225, with £110 costs and a £490 victim services surcharge, and had ten penalty points added to his driving licence.

Another defendant, Jay Cockett, also flouted the motorway's 70mph limit.

Cockett, 21, of Old Barn Crescent, Hambledon, was travelling west between junctions 8 and 7 on November 18 2023 when he was clocked at 97mph.

The defendant was fined £330, with £110 costs and a £133 victim services surcharge. He, too, had six penalty points added to his licence.

Gary Yallop, 37, of Exton Gardens, Fareham, travelled along the M27 at 86mph on November 6 2023. He was fined £240, with £110 costs and a £96 victim services surcharge.

All three defendants pleaded guilty to speeding.
