A marina is set to host a free, family-friendly event.

The Deacons Marina Big Weekend in Bursledon will take place from May 30 to June 1.

The event, organised by national marina group boatfolk, will offer a range of activities for boating enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

The weekend will include talks from the Coastguard on water safety, lifejacket checks by the RNLI, and discussions on biodiversity and sustainability by Portsmouth University.

There will also be exclusive discounts from Force 4's suppliers.

Julie Spensley-Corfield, assistant manager at Deacons Marina, said: "This weekend is all about celebrating everything Deacons Marina has to offer — from boatpoint and boatcare to the amazing businesses we have on-site — while sharing essential knowledge around boating safety and environmental awareness.

"It’s the perfect event for seasoned boaters to connect with experts, for those curious about getting into boating to learn more, and for anyone who simply wants to enjoy the fantastic on-site facilities during a fun, lively day out.

"There’s always a great energy around the marina during these events and we can’t wait to welcome visitors to be part of it."

Visitors will have the chance to meet representatives from leading marine brands, who will demonstrate products and answer questions.

Julian Cox, manager of Force 4 Chandlery at Deacons Marina, said: "We pride ourselves on working closely with our trusted suppliers to bring you the best in marine equipment and expertise.

"We’re teaming up with several of our top suppliers to offer an interactive and informative experience for all boating enthusiasts."

The weekend will also include a flare disposal service on May 31, in collaboration with Seago Yachting.

Tickets should be booked in advance at boatfolk.co.uk/deacons-marina-southampton/things-to-see-and-do/events/deacons-marina-big-weekend.

Visitors can bring their old flares for disposal at a cost of £1.50 per flare.

The event will be open from 11am to 5pm on Friday, 10am to 4pm on Saturday, and 10am to 1pm on Sunday.

Pre-booked ticket holders will be entered into a free prize draw.
