A Botley man is gearing up for a charity golf event to support the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, inspired by his wife’s battle with the condition.

The charity golf event will take place at Paultons Golf Centre in Romsey on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

The event has been running for four years and has raised more than £13,000 through the generosity of supporters.

The primary aim is to gather crucial funds for research and resources provided by the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, while also increasing public understanding of the condition.

Organised by Simon MacDonald, who was inspired to start the event with his wife, Cheryl.

Cheryl was born with problems with her lungs and kidneys, but it wasn’t until she was 34 that she was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

She frequently receives care at Southampton General Hospital and has shared her experiences to shed light on the realities of living with the condition.

Cheryl has expressed her gratitude towards the cystic fibrosis community and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust for their support and understanding.

She said: "My hope is that everyone with cystic fibrosis will get the new drugs available to help them live a longer and healthier life.

"I would say to anyone newly diagnosed that there is a lot of help and treatments now available and just to try and be as positive as they can, which I know can be very difficult at times, but I really do believe that a positive mental attitude really does make a difference."

Following the golf tournament, there will be a raffle, food and music into the evening. More information and tickets can be found on the 'CF Charity Golf Event' website.

Simon said: "Cheryl is brilliant, you would not think she was sick at all looking at her, but it does take a lot out of her.

"With 18 holes and 18 teams of four, you can raise a lot of money."

The MacDonald's organises the event annually, as a token of appreciation for the support Cheryl receives, and to help others living with the condition.

The MacDonald family also extends their gratitude to Dave and Emma Williams from Clear Electrical for their significant help in making the charity events a success.
