An "unauthorised" travellers encampment pitched up at a popular dog walking field last night before leaving today.
Hedge End Town Council said that entry was "forcibly gained" to Greta Park at 10.38pm on Tuesday night.
At least 15 caravans were believed to be occupying the former home of Hedge End Carnival which is surrounded by residential roads.
But Hampshire police confirmed to the Echo that vehicles were leaving the site at around 4.20pm today.
The town council said that despite the park being secured with "double-height barriers, metal bollards and padlocks", mechanical equipment was used to access the park.

A spokesperson for Hedge End Town Council said while travellers were still on the site: "Early this morning (Wednesday 14th May) the Town Clerk was in contact with our solicitors to commence eviction proceedings.
"The Town Council is, where possible, clearing the site of rubbish, ensuring that Town Council staff are not at risk. We are working with the relevant agencies to resolve this situation as soon as possible.

"If you have any concerns regarding anti-social behaviour, crime or vehicle nuisance please report this to the police on the 101 number."
The town council warned that it requires its enforcement to be authorised by a Magistrate, unlike "private sector landowners who can instruct a bailiff" once a notice has been served.
