A WOODLAND fire near a village Scout hut at the weekend is being treated as suspicious.
Police are investigating the blaze in Bransgore on Saturday evening, May 10.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: “Our Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service partners made us aware of a fire at approximately 6am on Sunday 11 May.
“The cause of the fire is currently being treated as suspicious and officers are investigating the full circumstances surrounding the incident, with enquiries ongoing.
“Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, and who has any information about it, should call 101 and quote incident number 44250204373.”
Multiple fire crews from across Hampshire and Dorset attended the incident which affected one hectare of heathland and woods.
Nearby residents are advised to close doors and windows due to the smoke in the area with residents urged to avoid the area around Burley Road.
One resident told the Daily Echo she had to evacuate her property for a short time on Saturday evening.
Firefighters remained on the scene for much of Sunday and returned to the scene on Monday.
