A new three-storey development featuring 12 flats and two shops could replace an existing building in Totton's town centre.

Totton Developments Limited has submitted a planning application to the New Forest District Council for the demolition of the current structure at 25-31 Rumbridge Street.

The proposal outlines the construction of a three-storey building housing two commercial units on the ground floor and 12 residential units above, as well as the demolition of an outbuilding to be replaced with a two-storey building with two residential units.

This move seeks to maintain the area’s "shopping frontage," with the commercial units occupying the entire ground floor.

The site, located in Totton town centre, comprises two shop units, one currently vacant, and a car park.

The upper floors are used for residential purposes.

This is not the first proposal for the site.

A previous application was refused in 2010, and an appeal was dismissed due to concerns about the development's impact on the area’s character and appearance, as well as on the living conditions at a nearby property.

The new proposal aims to address these issues, including reducing the overall scale and height of the building.
