Residents of a market town have been warned to keep checking their bin collection day, which are "likely to change" at some point "later this year".

A drive to make waste collection more efficient is likely to change schedules for people living within Fareham Borough Council's remit.

The authority is aligning its waste management scheme with the national Simpler Recycling legislation, which is set to start on March 31, 2026.

This legislation aims to streamline recycling across England by introducing separate streams for different recyclable materials.

As a part of the preparation for Simpler Recycling, the council is reorganising collection routes early, possibly altering established collection days.

These changes are projected to roll out "later this year" in order to be put in place before the legislation kicks in.

Council members are urging residents to keep to their current collection schedules until new instructions are issued.

Executive member for streetscene at Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Ian Bastable, said: "To prepare for the introduction of Simpler Recycling, it is important that we change our waste collection rounds to make them as efficient and resilient as possible.

"While this means that residents' bin collection days are likely to change, it is good news for Fareham as a whole, as it means that people will be able to recycle more, including food waste, directly from their homes."
