Hampshire police increased patrols and offered reassurance to residents in Boorley Green by holding a beat surgery after over £1,000 of damage was done to a building.

Shortly before 1am on May 5, entry was forced into Boorley Green Community Centre on Wallace Avenue in Botley by breaking through the front door.

Three others window were hit, and the value of the damage is believed to be in excess of £1,000, but no items were reported stolen.

In direct response to the incident, officers from Hedge End increased patrols and welcomed locals to the Boorley Green Sports Pavilion to discuss what measures were being taken for the following weekend.

Police wanted to speak to the public and reassure them between 5pm and 7pm on Friday night.

A post from police on Facebook said: "Please come and speak to your local officers about any concerns you may have and pass us any information in confidence."
