Staff at a school in Sholing have been hailed for being "tremendously positive and encouraging" as inspectors showered praise in an outstanding Ofsted report.

Sholing Infant School was given a flawless report after an inspection on April 1 and 2, being graded as "outstanding" in every area.

Ofsted said that pupils are "extremely happy" to attend the school, being "proud to be part" of its community.

Pupils are said to be enthusiastic about learning and "show pride in doing things well", being happy to persevere in their work and "consistently" meet the school's high expectations for achievement.

Inspectors said that reading and writing are promoted strongly, with the curriculum being "exceptionally well designed, taught and learned".

Staff are said to understand and identify children's different starting point and individual needs as soon as they meet.

(Image: Newsquest) Part of the report said: "The whole of pupils’ school experience is exceptionally well planned to help pupils to become good citizens, with a strong understanding of their responsibility to participate in society.

"This starts in the early years, where children learn how to respect others. For example, they are taught how to share, how to listen and what to do when they do not agree with someone else.

"As they progress through the school, pupils are encouraged to care for each other and the environment, for instance by helping someone in class or at home."

Headteacher Lisa Houghton, who leads the school of 267 pupils, told the Echo she was "delighted" that her outstanding grades had been maintained for the last 11 years.

(Image: Newsquest) She said: "We are so proud of our pupils, who, during our inspection, did what they do every day - work hard, be kind and show respect to all!

"We are always focused on further improving our school and will continue to do so following the inspection.

"We constantly evaluate our practice to ensure that teaching meets the needs of all our pupils - we are determined to achieve the best outcomes for every child!"

She also said the school was "lucky to have incredibly supportive parents" who make a huge difference in what pupils can achieve.
