Caroline Nokes, MP for Romsey and Southampton North, shared her experiences as Deputy Speaker at a recent community event.
Speaking at Appleshaw church, Ms Nokes detailed her challenge of familiarising herself with the large influx of new MPs following last year's election, a task she credited her excellent memory with helping her manage.
She said: "Luckily, I do have a very good memory and was quickly able to put names to faces."
The event was a 'Desert Island Discs' style gathering, with Bruce Parker, a former BBC South political editor and anchorman for South Today.
Her choice of music ranged from Mozart and Beethoven to Gloria Gaynor’s 'I will survive' and Cyndi Lauper’s 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun'.

Between the tunes, Ms Nokes recounted her career as an MP and her ministerial roles.
She also spoke about her election by fellow MPs to the role of Deputy Speaker.
Ms Nokes has served as MP for Romsey and Southampton North since 2010.
Following boundary changes last year, Appleshaw has been part of her constituency.
The event was held in aid of Appleshaw church, providing locals with an evening of personal insights from their MP.
