Further steps are being taken as developers look to controversially build eight new homes on the site of a vacant car dealership.

Plans were conditionally approved in 2022 to put six three-bed and two four-bed properties on the old Mayfield Cars site on Archery Road in Woolston.

Construction has not yet started, and residents were angered by the scheme because they feared that more people living in the area would result in more off-road parking being required.

The proposed development allocated eight parking spaces for houses and three visitor spaces.

The required number of spaces is two for a three-bedroom house and three for a four-bedroom house, meaning the development will have a 10-space shortfall.

Residents were therefore worried that this shortfall will spill out onto the surrounding roads but plans were given the green light as there was decided to be enough off-road parking in the area to make up for it.

One of the conditions of approval was that developers submitted a land contamination investigation and remediation to planning officers before construction was allowed to start.

This has now been sent in a new application, meaning that if it is approved, the scheme will come one step closer to becoming a reality.
