Childcare opportunities are now available in your local community through wraparound childcare. Find out more with Hampshire County Council.
Hampshire County Council is encouraging parents and carers of 5–11-year-olds to discover the many wraparound childcare schemes supporting children to flourish across the county.
Wraparound childcare is before and after school childcare for primary school aged children in England. It typically runs from around 8am until 6pm, during term time, either on a school site or another local setting such as a community centre, a nursery, or a childminder. This is different from out-of-school activities, or school clubs, which are less frequent and can be a one-off activity. Around 60 per cent of primary schools across England offer wraparound childcare, both before and after school and 92 per cent of Hampshire primary schools now have a before and after school wraparound childcare offer.
If you are eligible, you will be able to use Tax-Free Childcare or Universal Credit Childcare to help pay for your child’s place. You might also be able to get help with your initial upfront childcare costs. Check what support is available to you by using the childcare eligibility checker.
Following funding from the Department for Education, Hampshire County Council is looking to provide up to 4,000 new childcare opportunities to residents; providing a clear increase in eligibility and accessibility to wraparound childcare. This also includes an increase in access for armed forces families or families receiving additional support such as Universal Credit.
The aim is to provide a more convenient and seamless childcare solution for busy families looking for the best fit for them and their household.
The Department for Education aims to ensure that by 2026, all parents and carers of primary school-aged children who need it will be able to access term-time childcare in their local area. Hampshire County Council is encouraging more families to take advantage of these services and experience the benefits they can provide to their children and to wider family life.
Children who receive quality care are more likely to thrive academically and socially, setting them up for success in the future.
