An MP has branded vandals ‘idiots’ after a spate of smashed windows, broken plant pots and other damage at Hedge End train station.
Over the bank holiday weekend, volunteers at Hedge End Train Station were ‘deeply saddened’ to find glass windows had been shattered and smashed leaving shards of glass scattered across the platform.
This comes after a spate of incidents in recent weeks – such as handmade plant pots being ripped from fences and thrown onto the train tracks.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Hedge End railway station said: “We are deeply saddened to report that vandalism has occurred once again at Hedge End station in a short span of time. This repeated damage is extremely upsetting, and we are eager to understand what is happening in our area.
“If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please reach out via inbox message. Any details, no matter how small, could be helpful.
“We appreciate the support of our community in addressing this issue and in keeping Hedge End a safe and welcoming place for all.”

CCTV is installed at the station but the train station volunteers have said it is not deterring trouble.

Mr Holmes said: “I am furious at the consistent and needless vandalism at Hedge End station. The idiots who keep doing this are harming the great volunteers who keep this station clean and tidy and make it one of the most attractive train stations.

Many local schools, such as Berrywood Primary School, create artwork to be displayed in the station window – some of which has been destroyed by the vandals.
