A motorway will close for a weekend.

The southbound carriageway of the M271 will be shut between Rownhams Interchange (M27 Junction 3) and Junction 1 (Nursling Interchange).

The closure will begin at 9pm on May 30, and will remain in place until 6am on June 2.

The road leading from Junction 1 (Nursling Interchange) will also be closed.

National Highways said the closure is necessary to allow for concrete block replacement and associated works.

A diversion will be in place, directing traffic northbound on the M271, then southbound on the A3057, and westbound on Brownhill Way.

The order for the closure will come into effect on May 28 and will remain valid for up to 18 months, although the work is only expected to take place over one weekend.

National Highways said the closure is to ensure the safety of both workers and road users during the works.

The works will be carried out by contractors on behalf of National Highways.
