A young boy has been taken to hospital with 'potentially life-threatening injuries' following a collision with a car this afternoon, police have said.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary told The Echo: "We were called at approximately 3.30pm today (Thursday 1 May) to a report of a serious road traffic collision involving a vehicle – a Vauxhall Vivaro - and child on a scooter on Boniface Close, Totton.
"Also in attendance were our South Central Ambulance Service and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance partners.
"A boy, aged under ten, has been taken to hospital with serious, potentially life threatening injuries.
"Officers remain at the scene and road closures are currently in place between the junction of Water Lane and Calmore Road and Water Lane and Boniface Close.
"These are likely to remain in place for the rest of the evening. Please avoid the area and find alternative routes.
"If you witnessed anything of the incident, or have any dash cam footage of it, please call 101 and quote incident number 44250189414."

Two police cars have been pictured at the scene and part of the road has been cordoned off.
Staff from Totton Health and Leisure have been helping to divert traffic.

A post from Totton Health and Leisure said: "Please note that due to a road traffic accident access to the leisure centre is not possible via Calmore Road at present. Please access via Salisbury Road. Thank you."
