TWO huge vans have cleared out a popular cafe after it suddenly closed.

Basil Leaf Deli, on St George's Street, shockingly closed after its landlord, Qvest A8 Limited, issued a 'notice of forfeiture' and took it back under its control.

The notice of forfeiture was issued on Wednesday, April 16, only four days after the cafe canvassed for bands to play the venue on Saturday, April 12.

In a notice on the door, the owners of Basil Leaf were instructed to collect their "goods" by 5pm on Wednesday, April 30 or the landlord will "sell or otherwise dispose" of them.

"The lease has therefore ended through forfeiture and the premises have been secured. Accordingly, you may not enter the property.

"Any attempt to enter the premises without the landlord's authority may be a criminals offence and result in prosecution."

Basil Leaf Deli originally opened in a smaller shop further down St George's Street. It relocated in April 2023 to a larger premises, previously the MegaBet bookies shop.
