A Totton shopper has slammed Asda after he was given a three-year ban for swearing inside the store.
Lifelong Totton resident, Alan Bray said he was left furious after finding out that shoplifters are only served a ban of one year - when he was served a three-year ban for using a swear word in front of staff at the Asda store on Maynard Road.
In November, the shopper entered the store and exchanged some credit on his gas and electric card for cash with a cashier – a week later he went to do the same and told it would not be possible.
Alan, who has ADHD and autism, said: “I was quite frustrated as my request was not a problem the week before and I asked to see a manager to stop the issue happening again.
“I was told that whoever saw me last time shouldn’t have given me the cash, but was never offered an apology or told we will make sure this won’t happen again.
“By this time, I was quite frustrated and walked off towards the exit and swore out loud which I should not have done but I was clearly frustrated and I was already away from the staff I had been talking to.”

After using the store toilet on the way out, Alan was greeted by a security guard who handed him a letter that explained he was banned from Asda for three years.

“I used to shop at Asda daily and was on really friendly terms with lots of the staff ,many of which knew me by name.
“I have been robbed of that social interaction which has left me quite isolated.
“What left me speechless was that those who have stolen under £100 worth of goods are served only a ban of a year.”
Alan has made repeated attempts to apologies to staff, even writing a letter in a bid to get in touch with the Asda manager who was involved in the altercation.
A spokesperson for Asda said: “While banning a customer is always a last resort, we do not tolerate abuse of any kind in our stores. For this reason, we made the decision to ban Mr Bray.”
