To mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War, a number of events are planned on the Isle of Wight.
Victory in Europe Day, or VE Day, marks the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces.
Here’s a round-up of just some of the events organised by Island town, parish or community councils...
Bembridge
Thursday, May 8:
- 9am - Flag raising, Bembridge War Memorial
- 2pm - 4pm - Village Hall 'Street Party'. 1940s themed entertainment (ticketed event)
- 6.30pm - 6.50pm - Church bells ringing
- 7pm - 7.30pm - Church service, Holy Trinity Church
- 9pm - 9.35pm - 'Lamp Lights of Peace' Service at the Bembridge War Memorial
Cowes
Thursday, May 8:
- 7pm - Vectis Corps of Drums lead a parade from Shooters Hill through the High Steet to The Parade
- 7.15pm - Welcome at the Bandstand
- 7.30pm - Vectis Corps of Drums display
- 8.15pm - Double Take to perform
- 9.30pm - Lighting of the Beacon by Colonel Carron Snagge OBE DL
East Cowes
Thursday May 8, from 4pm, East Cowes Esplanade:
- An evening of live music and the Beacon Lighting ceremony.
Friday May 9, 2pm - 4pm, The Town Hall:
- Themed Tea Dance (£2 entry) in collaboration with: East Cowes Town Council, Waitrose, Barnardo's, Action IW, Social Prescriber, Alzheimer's Cafe and Living Well
Nettlestone and Seaview
Thursday, May 8:
- VE Day flag (provided by Parish Council) flown in St Peter's Church Garden
- 6pm - VE Day service at St Peter's Church (with accompanied wreath laying)
- The Old Fort and Seaview Yacht Club open to the public and offering special 'fish and chips'
- 9.30pm a 'Beacon of Peace' with accompanying tribute will be lit on the Esplanade (outside The Old Fort)
Newport and Carisbrooke
Thursday, May 8:
- VE80 Day Service - The Minster in Newport - doors open at 4.15pm, seated by 4.45pm
Saturday June 14:
- 'Celebrate 80' event 10am -4pm - Victoria Recreation Ground, Newport. There will be a parade through the town which will end up at Victoria Rec
Ryde
Thursday, May 8:
- Lighting of the Beacon at the end of the Marina Arm
Sandown
Sunday, May 4:
- Church service at 11am at Christ Church, Sandown
Thursday, May 8:
- Parade from Sandown to Shanklin, RBL
Yarmouth
Thursday, May 8:
- Beacon lighting on the Green in Yarmouth, with a display from Medina Marching Band
