A prolific thief has admitted stealing perfume testers, cordless clippers and a raft of other items from shops across Southampton.

Henok Beyene, 40, appeared at the city's magistrates court and pleaded guilty to 11 counts of shoplifting.

His one-man crimewave began on August 18 2024, when he stole four bottles of outdoor detergent from a shop in Shirley Road.

Beyene targeted the same store on September 11, making off with three boxes of detergent valued at £22.25. A week later he left a Co-op store in the city without paying for laundry products worth £29.

The following month he stole phone holders and accessories, plus a can of WD40, from Asda.

On November 17 he pinched two jackets together valued at £446 from the Run Company in Hanover Buildings. Five days later he took a jacket and a pair of trousers together worth £143 from Footasylum in Above Bar Street.

Beyene's offending continued in December.

He stole perfume testers valued at £600 from John Lewis on December 3, and beauty sets worth £273 from Boots on December 11.

Beyene's first offence of 2025 was committed on January 2, when he stole £41.85 of food from a Co-op store. A week later he made off with cordless clippers valued at £185.97 from Boots.

Beyene, of James Street, Southampton, was remanded on conditional bail until June 27 2025.
