A new Isle of Wight holiday park has opened, just ten minutes out of Newport town centre but offering tranquillity and escape.

Four Lakes Retreat, located just off Staplers Road, currently offers three luxury cabins around a central lake, complete with hot tubs, cooking facilities and decking.

The business, headed up by Inez and Andrew Newman, opened in April after many months of planning.

Inez said: "To be in the middle of the Island, it's ideal. You don't have to go far to get somewhere tranquil - there's 13 acres here you can roam about."

She said it's close enough to the town, to be able to get takeaways.

Inez and Andrew have a background in property development, and moved to Yarmouth 13 years ago.

They purchased the land off Staplers Road in July 2020 and were granted planning permission for eight cabins.

The site, originally part of the IW Lavender Farm, has four man-made lakes, giving the retreat its name.

Two further cabins are being furnished and are expected to be available in May and July.

Each cabin has unique decoration, with the first ideal for couples, with a secret garden overlooking the lake.

The second has a private bar, and the third is suitable for family stays with table tennis and two bedrooms.

Each cabin comes with a barbecue and a wood-fired hot tub, as well as restored and upholstered furniture.

The light shades are made by Inez and Andrew's 16-year-old son, who is currently doing his design technology GCSE.

In the future, the couple plan to make one of the lakes viable for open-water swimming.

Inez said the site's central location makes it perfect for exploring the Island.

"One day you can be on Bembridge ledge looking at the shells, and another day you can be surfing at Compton," she said.

Each cabin is available for four, seven, 11 and 14-night stays.
