Whether you are after a woodland circular or a calm stroll along a river, Watford has lots of routes to try out.
To help you find the perfect child-friendly walk, we've rounded up five of the best, with most taking between one and three hours.

Child-friendly walks in and around Watford
Cassiobury Park and Harrocks Wood Circular

Cassiobury Park and Harrocks Wood Circular walk is said to be the perfect child-friendly walk all year round.
Popular among families, AllTrails shares that the route is "beautiful to visit anytime", adding that there is a lot to explore.
Much of the path is flat, making it ideal for everyone, and along the walk there are several picnic spots to relax. You can even take the dog, but they must be kept on leads at all times.
One walker said: "One of the best trails in the area, nice woodland walk which opens up into field views towards the end."
Oxhey Woods Circular

Length: 5km
Considered an easy route, this walking trail takes you through Cassiobury Park and follows the Grand Union Canal and the River Gade before taking you back to the park.
Great for families, you can enjoy a sit in the park or grab a coffee from a local café to enjoy along the way. Along the walk, you can enjoy views of the river, wildflowers and take some time to relax and watch the birds.
Dogs are also welcome on the route but must be kept on a lead.
One walker said: "The trail is all on a road so very easy walk, but lovely trees and river. Toilets and café close to parking and even a playground for kids."
Watford Junction to Watford North

Length: 3.9km
AllTrails shares that this walk is great for the family and is "generally considered an easy route".
Great for running or walking, the route is open all year round and offers impressive, beautiful views in all seasons.
The walk takes you from Watford Junction rail station to Watford North station with around half the walk along residential streets and the remainder leading you through parks and woodland trails.
A part of the walk also runs alongside the River Colne through Waterfields Recreation Ground and both the Radlett Road and Knutsford playing fields.

This 5km walk around Cassiobury Park is great for children, as it is marked as easy and fairly accessible.

Taking you around the park, you can enjoy bird watching and explore the park along with views of the Grand Union Canal.
With plenty of places to sit around the park, it's great for when you need a rest and the children can continue to play.
