PREPARATIONS are underway for the next Bishop’s Waltham Garden Fair. There will be lots of new stalls this year as well as old favourites. There will be a good range of plant stalls for gardening enthusiasts includes succulents, houseplants, trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials and bedding plants for those summer pots and baskets. Food, home wares, fashions and garden accessories complete the line up. Attendees will be able to watch new Birds of Prey owners Liberty’s Owls and Raptors displaying their birds including a spectacular white tailed sea eagle, admire alpacas and join in with a dance from Wickham Morris. Children can also enter a cake decorating competition. Plenty of refreshments will be available to suit all tastes.
The Fair is back at Wintershill Hall, but a week later than usual, on Sunday, May 11, from 10pm to 4pm. All details can be found at bishops-waltham-garden-fair.org. This year, the event is being held in aid of St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital.
THE House History Project is back. The Bishop’s Waltham Society is creating an online archive of Bishop's Waltham's historic houses and their past residents. There will be a public meeting about the project at The Catholic Church Hall on Thursday, April 24, at 7.30pm. Historic house owners or enthusiasts can email their interest to projects@bishopswalthamsocety.org.uk.
MI BELLO Lugar are at Giorgio's Mediterranean Restaurant and Bar, in Bishop’s Waltham, on Wednesday, May 7 for a craft cider launch and apple juice tasting event. Starting from 6pm, the event will allow attendees to sample traditional ciders and apple juices. There is no need to book; for more information, call 07790 146847.
AN OPEN gardens event will be held in Swanmore on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27. Tickets cost £6 and are available on the day form the Paterson Centre from 12.30pm, with the gardens open from 1pm to 5pm. Well-behaved dogs leads are welcome. There will be a free park and ride service courtesy of The Meon Valley Lions Club. Eight gardens are expected to be open. There will be plants for sale and tea with homemade cakes in the Paterson Centre from 2pm to 5pm.
THE next Stitchers Comedy Club show at Wickham Community Centre will be on Friday, April 25 from 8pm to 10.15pm. The event will be MC’d by Tom Glover, and will feature Phil Nichol, Mike Gunn, and Paul Sinha. Tickets cost £19 each, and are still available to purchase.
ONE last reminder that a quiz night fundraiser is taking place at the Jubilee Hall, Bishop’s Waltham, on Saturday, April 26. Starting at 7pm, the quiz is raising money for two local scouts who have been selected to go on an international expedition this summer to Malta with the Hampshire Scouts. A cheese supper will be provided, and there will be a bar to purchase drinks on the night. Tables of up to eight are allowed, with tickets costing £11 each.
