More than 300 amateur singers will perform Verdi's Requiem alongside four professional soloists and an orchestra.

The performance, taking place at The Anvil in Basingstoke, is part of the Hampshire Choral Festival (HCF) on Sunday, May 11.

The festival features seven community choirs from across Winchester, Twyford, Compton and Shawford, Botley, Sarisbury, Itchen Valley and Overton.

The event is particularly significant as it marks the last time the renowned conductor John Sutton will direct.

He has also notably raised £26,000 for Hampshire Hospices.

The Anvil event will include a collection for hospices.

The audience will also witness the first complete performance of The Life of Universal Song, an ode to Cecilia, the patron saint of music.

This piece was written and conducted by Derek Beck, HCF's chairman and former musical director, to celebrate the festival's centenary.

The event will be attended by notable figures such as Deputy Lord Lieutenant Louisa Portal, the Mayor of Basingstoke Cllr Dan Putty, Winchester MP Danny Chambers, and composer Sir Karl Jenkins.

Tickets are available from The Anvil Box Office or online.
