A Somerset MP has praised the "inspirational" efforts of a group who delivered an ambulance to Ukraine.

Sarah Dyke, Liberal Democrat MP for Glastonbury and Somerton, tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament recognising the humanitarian work of Nich Woolf and volunteers from Festival Medical Services (FMS) in Somerton.

Mr Woolf, chair of FMS, and three volunteers embarked on a 1,600-mile journey through five countries to get a fully equipped ambulance to Kyiv.

The vehicle was handed over to a Ukrainian surgeon to boost frontline medical support.

The motion also recognises FMS's continued efforts, including securing two 4x4 vehicles to be converted into medical units, thanks to UK donations.

Since the start of the Russian invasion, FMS has partnered with charities to supply trauma kits, first-aid packs, and defibrillators to affected areas.

Sarah Dyke MP said: "I am so impressed by Nich Woolf and his team’s compassion and courage.

"Their commitment to helping the people of Ukraine is utterly inspirational and represents the very best of community spirit in times of hardship.

"Their actions embody our unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and democracy.

"With the tragic loss of over 12,600 civilian lives and tens of thousands injured, it is critical we step up our assistance."

The motion also calls on the UK government and European partners to increase military, medical, and humanitarian support for Ukraine, especially given recent uncertainties around US commitments.

"We must continue standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Ukraine," she concluded, "supporting its people against Putin’s brutal aggression."
