An East Devon retirement community has invited veterans and those aged over 60 to join a VE Day anniversary celebration.

Churchill Living at Otter Lodge on Silver Street, Honiton, will be raising a glass to 80 years since VE Day on Wednesday, May 7.

The event is open to everyone, with a focus on members of the local community, armed services veterans, and their friends and family.

The event will run from 2pm to 4pm and attendees will be able to enjoy a warm welcome, free refreshments, music from the 1940s, and an opportunity to share memories of VE Day in the owners' lounge and gardens.

Caroline Haswell, Churchill’s senior marketing manager, said: "Our VE Day event is the perfect opportunity for local people to come and celebrate the 80th anniversary of this huge moment in our history.

"We’d love to welcome anyone with interesting memories to share about the original VE Day celebrations, whether they joined in as children or have a family member who played a part.

"I’d encourage people to come and see for themselves the wonderful community atmosphere on offer here."

The company will also be using the event to showcase their Otter Lodge accommodation, designed for independent living with a sense of community.

Otter Lodge offers one and two-bedroom apartments, with communal areas, a lodge manager, and a 24-hour emergency careline service.

It has become a popular choice for local over-60s seeking independence with the security of a community setting.

Those interested in attending the event are asked to call 01404 378 132 or visit churchill-living.co.uk for more information and to register.
