Twenty years ago, an imaginative spectacle unfolded at Victoria School, Branksome.

On July 21, 1999, the school grounds transformed into a time-travelling wonderland as pupils and staff participated in an annual sports day themed around the Ages of Man.

Costumed in a dazzling array of historical attire, the 114 students were transported back through centuries.

From the rugged Vikings and the free-spirited hippies to the stoic Romans and the primordial cavemen, every child embraced a unique era.

Some even ventured into the far reaches of the galaxy, dressed as iconic Star Wars characters.

Divided into nine teams, the pupils, aged three to nineteen, raced through time with boundless energy and enthusiasm. The atmosphere was electric as the children's laughter and cheers filled the air. Even the vice-principal, Sue Stratis, was captivated by the event, describing it as "a tremendous atmosphere" and "a spectacle to be seen."

The sports day was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of history, imagination, and camaraderie. As the students crossed the finish line, their faces beaming with pride and accomplishment, it was clear that this timeless adventure would be a cherished memory for years to come.
