AN improved sports pitch has been proposed in a residential area of Bemerton Heath.

Mike Dawson of Wiltshire Council has submitted plans for a "PlayZone" on Gainsborough Close "to tackle inequalities in physical activity and provide access to high-quality facilities" in the area.

Plans include new sports fencing, floodlight columns with LED lamps, a spectator area with benches and bins and PlayZone signage, all contributing to a multi-games area.

Four basketball hoops, two benches and an electronic access system to book the area will all be implemented if plans are approved.

The applicant has said: "We believe the development of a PlayZone in the proposed location will provide a high-quality sporting and activity space. The development aims to tackle inequalities in participation in sport and activity in the area.

"The proposal would be of considerable benefit to the local community groups, through the provision of a new facility in a previously unused area.

"The new facility has been designed with the aim of minimising impact to local residents / environment where possible, with drainage / fencing / floodlighting / access all designed with construction best practices in mind."
