Approval has been given to demolish a “derelict” and “eyesore” farm and convert it into three homes near Romsey.

The farm site is made up of former agricultural buildings in the countryside area of Wellow Parish.

Dellans Farm Limited submitted a planning application to Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) to demolish the existing Dellans Farm in East Wellow and build three houses with garages.

The site is located in the rural area of Wellow Parish and consists of several former agricultural buildings. Two of these buildings have received permission to be converted into residential dwellings.

The planning application statement outlines the demolition of existing agricultural buildings and the construction of three new dwellings and their garages.

The planning statement also indicated that the application’s main goal is to “enhance the overall appearance of the site” by “revitalising an agricultural yard that has been neglected for several years”.

The TVBC planning team explained that the new layout presents a more inviting courtyard feel. The proposed car barn area aims to reduce visibility from the road, and removing the roundabout entrance is seen as a positive direction for the design.

However, Wellow Parish Council objected to the proposal, saying that the buildings are structurally “unsound” and do not comply with the permitted development order.

In support of the application, Andrew Wiggall, who lives opposite the site, said the site is “derelict” and “very much an eyesore”.

Mr Wiggall said: “This will improve the site and its immediate surroundings, and I hope that work can commence on-site very soon. We are happy to support unused buildings and sensible replacements in rural areas.”

Another neighbour, Brent Elson, said the plan would be a “positive” addition to the area and “help tidy the site up”.

Mr Elson added, “The site is currently a tip and not looking its best, so I think building these homes will really improve the area and provide much-needed housing for the local community.”

TVBC planning committee approved the application on Tuesday, April 9.
