A minute’s silence is to be held across football matches in Hampshire today following the death of a youth footballer.

Emma-Leigh Ryan, who played for Andover New Street's Under 13s Arctic Vixens, died on Wednesday, the Hampshire Girls Youth Football League announced on Friday.

It said it would “honour Emma-Leigh with a minute’s silence” at each of its games across the region on Saturday.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Andover New Street FC & Social Club they were “absolutely devastated to hear of the loss.”

The club spokesperson said: “We are absolutely devastated to hear of the loss of one of our NSY family, Emma-Leigh Ryan who played for our U13 Arctic Vixens.

“On behalf of us all at the club we are sending her family, friends, fellow teammates and coaches our deepest sympathy and all our love at this sad time.

“If you or anyone you know is struggling with this tragic loss, please do reach out to us, or your coaches and we can put you in touch with one of our Mental Health First Aiders across the club.

“We ask that all those playing this weekend hold a minute’s silence in memory of Emma-Leigh.”
