New Forest District Council has approved its response to the government's devolution consultation.
It addresses the government's proposal to establish a mayoral combined county authority across Hampshire, Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, and Southampton.
The council's response, which was authorised at a special meeting on March 20, supports the principles of devolution.
It advocates for enhanced local decision-making and retaining a greater share of locally generated funding.
However, the council has highlighted areas it say are needing more clarity, such as the scale and timing of funding and the role of district councils during any local government reorganisation.
The council's response will now be submitted to the government as part of the consultation process.
It aims to ensure that the interests of the council, its communities, residents, and businesses are represented in the devolution process.
