An application to extend the opening hours at a takeaway chain in Southampton has been given the green light by council planning officers.

Southampton City Council approved the plans, letting the Burger King restaurant on Burgess Road to open its drive-thru later.

The burger chain has now been given permission to up between 6am and midnight on Sunday to Thursday, and 6am to 1am on Friday and Saturday.

However, only the drive-thru will be available from 11pm onwards.

The application received two objections from local residents, which raised concerns about "noise and nuisance to residents" from "delivery motorcycles" revving their engines "when leaving".

A condition was added to the approval of the plans in hopes of tackling this.

From 11pm to 6am, the internal and external dining areas are to be closed to patrons, and the car parking on the eastern boundary of the site is also to be closed off.
