A Papa Johns takeaway has been granted permission to stay open until 3am after plans were approved.

The restaurant on 107 Shirley High Street lodged documents to alter a condition of a previously approved application that restricted its trading hours.

But with this approval from Southampton City Council, the pizza takeaway can now stay open from 7am to 1am on Monday to Thursday, and from 7am to 3am Friday to Saturday.

But from 11.30pm, Papa Johns will only be allowed to make deliveries and will not be able to take collection or walk-in orders.

A condition of the approval is that the takeaway should not receive any deliveries of its own or undertaken any servicing between the hours of 10pm and 7am.

The application received four objecting comments from residents, with one arguing that opening until 3am would "increase anti-social behaviour" and would be "contrary to ensuring public safety".

But the planning officer did note that the premises would not be open to visiting customers any later than already allowed and that the extension was being made solely for deliveries.
