STAFF at the Romsey Morrison’s Daily have announced that it will close next week.

In a post on Facebook, assistant manager Leon Edwards revealed that the shop, in the Cornmarket, will close its doors for good on Wednesday, April 16.

Mr Edwards said: “I’d like to take a moment to personally thank all of our customers who have supported us and continued to shop with us over the past few years. Your loyalty and kindness have meant a great deal to all of us here at the Romsey branch.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I share our store will be closing, with our last day of trading being the 16th.

“I hope all my team members find new positions.”

This comes after Morrisons announced that it would be closing 17 shops across the country, with the closures part of a shake-up which will affect 365 people, with many facing redundancy.

As previously reported, 18 market kitchens, 17 convenience stores, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies will be affected.

Rami Baitieh, Morrisons’ chief executive, said the changes were a “necessary part of our plans to renew and reinvigorate” the chain and invest in areas that “customers really value”.

The Morrisons in Romsey has been the subject of a planning debacle, which saw councillors call the company out for its failure to install bollards following a series of ram raids.
