A former Southampton schoolteacher charged with sexual activity with a teenage girl has appeared in court.

Paul Davis, 48, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

He appeared in court wearing a black suit and black waterproof coat, and remained standing for the brief five-minute hearing.

He is the third teacher from St Anne’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College to be charged amid an investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse by those in a position of trust against former pupils.

Davis, of Manor Road North, Southampton, faces three charges of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15.

No pleas were entered.

The charges he faces cover a five-month period from 2021 to 2022.

He will appear before Portsmouth Crown Court on May 6.

This comes after former headteacher at the all girls’ school James Rouse previously pleaded not guilty to sexual activity with a child while abusing his position of trust.

It is alleged he kissed a girl at the school.

The offence against a girl aged under 18 is alleged to have taken place in October in 2005 and 2006.

His trial will start on November 3, and the 48-year-old defendant, of Lowford Hill Close, in Southampton, is on conditional bail until then.

Fellow ex teacher at the school Edward Waller, of Winter Road, Southsea, faces a rape charge and two charges of abuse of position of trust, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on February and entered no pleas to the charges.
