It is understood that the TR9 Spitfire had flown from the Goodwood Aerodrome in Chichester where customers can buy experience trips to see all the views across Hampshire from the air.
The Spitfire prototype first flew from Southampton Airport and initial production of the plane was at the Supermarine factory in Woolston.
"The Blitz on Southampton was devastating and the town was hit time and time again, not only because of its aircraft industry but because of its docks and its many other strategic targets," the city council website notes.
