First woman to cross the marathon finish line
Jenny Badger, 33, was the first woman to finish the Southampton full marathon 2025.
She said: "I’m so so happy with how I did, I could never have imagined it to have gone as well as I did.
"I’ve worked so hard for this and it’s amazing that it’s all paid off.
"I really can’t put into words just how happy I am to be the first woman to cross the line this year.
"I actually quite enjoy running on hill courses so this one was perfect for me.
"Now I’m looking forward to running an ultra marathon in July."

She said: "I did the half marathon and it was really, really hard.

More runners are pouring across the finish line this morning, with a winners ceremony set to take place at 12.30pm.
Well done all!
Emma Welsh, 49, ran the half marathon today.
This is the second time she has run in the ABP Southampton Marathon after taking part in 2015.
She said: "It’s a slightly different route to what I did 10 years ago, but I really enjoyed it and had a good race.
"The first time I ran this, I didn’t have any children so for me, preparing has been more of a challenge this time round.
"I’ve been running half a marathon every week for six months which put me in good stead for today."

Steve Lebas, 54, ran in the 10k today.
He said: "It was a good race today. There was lots of support all round the track which definitely helped.
"Just as you come round St Mary’s Stadium, there is a point where it goes quite quiet and there’s not many people and I found that bit really tough.
"The last 2k for me was difficult but I powered through and got there in the end with a time of 44min and 30 seconds.
"Another part that was really tough was the Itchen Bridge. When you are going up the hill and the bridge is just staring in front of you, it looks very daunting."

Peter Jolliffe, 79, from the Isle of Wight took part in the 5k race today.
He said: "I was really happy to run in the 5.
"When I was a bit younger, I would’ve done a marathon or a 10k but it was great to still be able to run in the 5k race today.
"This is the first time I’ve run in the ABP Southampton Marathon so it was really great to be able to take that one off my list.
"I did suffer a little bit with my hamstring on the final stretch, but thankfully managed to hobble over the finish line."

Half marathon runners start to cross the finish line
Isaac Andrews, 24, ran the half marathon today and said it was one of the best he’s run.
He added: "I’ve been gradually trying to increase the volume of training that I do.
"I’ve also tried to incorporate some really he runs as this track isn’t particularly flat.
"I felt really good until I got about halfway round the track and suddenly the sun came out from behind the buildings and really started to make it a challenge.
"But with a time of one hour and 22 minutes, I’m really pleased.
"To anyone thinking of doing the marathon next year I’d say you absolutely should and the most important thing you can do is to stay consistent while training."

'Fantastic day'
Helen Alsop, 48, has been running in the 5K race today.
She said: "I went out at the start line a bit too fast. I’m used to going out on runs on my own so I think I’ve got a bit carried away on the start line which I paid for later in the race. because I came out so fast at one point I had to slow down to a walk.
"I did really well until the 4k mark.
"Where I’ve been preparing during the winter it was quite a challenge to have the sun beating down on me this time, but overall I really enjoyed it and it’s been a fantastic day."

'A South Coast staple'
Lord Mayor of Southampton, Cllr Dave Shields is among those cheering on participants.
He said: I’m so pleased there has been such a big turnout today at the start line.
"From what I could tell it looks like we have around 10,000 runners taking to the track today which is brilliant.
"It’s become such a great part of Southampton and with it being the 10th anniversary of the marathon, it’s established itself as a real staple of the south coast.
"Best of luck to all those people running today.
"I hope you smash your personal best times, raise lots of money for your charities and good causes and just have a really good race."
