A section of a busy road will shut for roadworks to get underway.

Southern Water has found a burst water main under the A27 Botley Road, between the Luzborough roundabout and North Baddesley.

The road will close from Monday, April 7 so repairs can take place.

Councillor Nick Adams-King said: "Southern Water need to undertake urgent repairs to address a leak near the centre of the carriageway.

"Unfortunately, due to the location of the excavation and safety requirements, a full closure of the carriageway in both directions is necessary.

"The repairs will take place during the Easter school holidays to reduce disruption."

Access will be limited to properties between Luzborough and Rownhams Lane.

The cycle and footway beside the road remains open.

Southern Water will assess the repair upon excavation and potentially downgrade the closure to temporary traffic lights or priority working.

A signed diversion route has been put in place to assist drivers.
