A breakout star born in Chandler’s Ford has said “can’t wait” to kick off her tour with a homecoming gig next week, as she recalled memories of being recognised in Southampton.

Singer Caity Baser starts a run of “intimate piano shows” by returning to The Joiners on April 9, giving fans an opportunity to experience new, unreleased music for the first time.

The 22-year-old performed at the venue while she studied at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College, and she shared her excitement to go back when speaking to the Echo.

“I had an end of year assessment thing in there and I had my little keyboard and sang,” Caity said.

“It’s weird that I’m going back and I’m singing with the piano now, it’s funny.”

Caity broke out by posting videos to TikTok during the first covid lockdown, releasing “Average Student” in August 2020 which picked up a million views on the platform.

She remembered being recognised in person for one of the first times in Southampton as the “world started opening up again”.

“I went into Westquay, and you know where the Chopstix is in the food court,” she said.

“I was stood there with my mates and then this girl was looking at me and she was like, ‘oh my god that’s Caity Baser.’

“And I was looking at her like, what are you looking at? Then I was like wait, do you recognise me? That was really cool.”

Caity came out of the lockdown a star, but explained she had no issue adapting to her new found fame.

She said: “I feel like I've been making my whole life to be like, yeah, I am Caity Baser and I’m a singer.

“As a person, I’m like a golden retriever, I love everything and everything is so fun.

“The person that you see on stage is exactly who I am in person.”

Caity’s “Watch That Girl (She’s Gonna Sing It)” tour will be “stripped back”, just her “and a piano”.

She said: “Just because the music is a little bit different doesn't mean that I will not be as energetic and ridiculous when I'm doing these shows.

“I’m excited to just sing, I feel like all of the music I've released is great, and I love it, and it's served such a purpose and I've had so much fun.

“But I feel like it doesn't showcase what I can actually do. I’m excited to properly sing and just strip it back and impress people, I can’t wait.”
