A Wetherspoons pub has reopened after an extensive refurbishment project that cost £1 million.

The Star on Gosport High Street opened its doors to the public again at 8am on Tuesday after the pub, which first opened as a Wetherspoon in May 2001, was upgraded.

Local artwork is now on display inside the venue which has undergone complete decoration works, with new carpet being fitted throughout the customer area.

The bar has been given a new lease of life too with new drinks dispense equipment and overhead glass racks added.

The beer garden and male and female toilets have all also been given a refit.

An additional 10 full and part time jobs have been created at the pub following the two-month closure for refurbishment.

Speaking before the reopening, pub manager Fi Gates said: “The £1 million investment highlights Wetherspoon’s commitment to the pub and its staff and customers, as well as to Gosport itself.

“We’re delighted that we have also been able to create 10 new jobs for local people.

“The team are looking forward to welcoming customers back into The Star and we’re confident that they will be impressed by the new-look pub.”

In the kitchen, work has been done to the walls, floor and ceiling.

Essential roof works have also been undertaken with the pub's extractor equipment reconfigured.

The staff room facilities have also been upgraded.

The Star pub is open from 8am until 12 midnight Sunday to Thursday, and 8am until 1am Friday and Saturday.

Food is served throughout the day, with breakfast being cooked up at opening time and the kitchen closes at 11pm every day.

The pub will be open for family dining, with children, accompanied by an adult, welcome in the pub until 9pm, throughout the week.

Wetherspoons recently ran a 12-day beer festival featuring 30 real ales that took over six pubs in and around Southampton.

From March 5 to 16, the festival brought international brews from Italy, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the USA.

The beers were all concocted by female brewers and were priced at £2.15 a pint.
