PHOTOGRAPHS from the archives from the 1940s and 1950s.
Chronicle photographers were out and about every day of the week, 52 weeks of the year.
Life in the 21st century has changed in many ways but these photos capture scenes that would be recognisable today. Farriers still shoe horses although these animals are now unlikely to be workhorses. Thatchers still restore roofs of cottages in villages across the county. Cattle are still sold at auction although no longer in Winchester.
The photos are held at the headquarters of the Hampshire Cultural Trust at Bar End in Winchester.
