An overheating vending machine prompted an emergency response at the hospital today.
Fire crews from St Mary’s, Eastleigh and Hightown were called to Southampton General Hospital shortly after 2.30pm.
It followed reports of a strong smell of burning on one of the hospital floors.

A spokesperson from the fire service confirmed firefighters have since left the scene.
They said: “We were called at 2.42pm this afternoon after there was a strong smell of burning reported on one of the floors of the hospital.
“It was caused by an overheating vending machine and the crews have now left the scene.”
