A new plan for more than 150 homes to extend an Oxfordshire village has been lodged, two years after a similar scheme was dismissed by a planning inspector.

Developer Gladman wants to build 160 homes on land off the B480 in Chalgrove.

This comes after an application for the same number of homes in the same location was refused by South Oxfordshire District Council in 2022 and then dismissed at an appeal in 2023.

The developer says the new scheme will include 64 affordable homes, public open space, landscaping and vehicle access.

Chalgrove homes master plan (Image: South Oxfordshire District Council) Construction is estimated to cost £28.3 million and would provide 116 full time construction jobs and eight apprenticeships per year.

So far, no comments in support or objection have been submitted by members of the public.

In the scheme's planning statement, it said: “The site is a logical extension to Chalgrove. It is a sustainable location being situated within walking distance of local facilities, services and public transportation links.

“The development can positively address site constraints and successfully integrate with the urban edge and landscape surroundings. The development will create new amenity space for both new and existing residents and will enhance public access across the site.

“This statement confirms Gladman’s commitment to the delivery of a high-quality development and demonstrates that up to 160 dwellings can be accommodated in a sustainable location, whilst remaining sympathetic to the existing setting of the site and providing a wealth of benefits for the community of Chalgrove.”
