Southampton City Council has celebrated the achievements of its dedicated apprentices.

The event, organised by the council and sponsored by several training bodies, recognised the efforts of those who completed their programmes in 2024.

Successful apprentices, their families and friends attended the celebration.

The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the award winners.

Lisa Wallis was named Apprentice of the Year.

Andrea Garden was awarded Apprentice's Manager of the Year.

Her nomination noted how she creates opportunities for new learning and provides consistent support and mentorship to her team members.

The newly introduced Apprentice Rising Star award went to Michael Gill.

Despite being new to the organisation, Michael has already made a significant impact on his team and the residents.

He was praised for his dedication and resilience in his role.

The right worshipful Lord Mayor of Southampton, David Shields, said: "We are incredibly proud of all our apprentices and their accomplishments.

"Their dedication and commitment to learning are an inspiration to us all.

"These apprentices are the future of our city, and we are thrilled to celebrate their success."

The importance of apprenticeships in providing valuable skills and opportunities for individuals in Southampton was a key theme of the event.

Councillor Lorna Fielker, leader of Southampton City Council, said: "Apprenticeships are a vital part of our strategy to develop a skilled workforce and support the growth of the local economy.
